Marie recently tried this dish at a potluck and had to have the recipe! She recommends Red Boat Fish sauce. It's 100% Pure, first press extra virgin quality fish sauce made from only 2 ingredients: black anchovy and sea salt.
3 Tbsp fresh lime juice,
2 Tbs Asian fish sauce (nuoc mam or nam pla),
1 Tbs sugar,
1/2 tsn hot chili flakes (more if you are adventurous)
6 C finely shredded red and green cabbage,
1/2 C slivered red onion,
1/4 C chopped fresh mint leaves,
1/4 C chopped fresh cilantro,
1/2 C chopped roasted, salted peanuts.
In a large bowl, mix lime juice, fish sauce, 2 tablespoons water, the sugar, and the chili flakes to taste. Stir in cabbage and onion. Just before serving, stir in mint, cilantro, peanuts, and salt to taste.
